E^2 M / MM2

The E2M is a conventional quadrupole GC/MS with 70 eV ionization, which produces NIST-searchable mass spectra. The E2M can operate in both full-scan and SIM mode, and up to 8 SIM masses for up to 20 target analytes can be simultaneously monitored. The E2M uses an ion pump as its sole vacuum source, which is silent and has no moving parts. The E2M must be maintained at vacuum at all times. If vacuum is lost, the E2M must be attached to a turbo pump to restore vacuum. This operation cannot be performed by the user, so the unit must be returned to the vendor or serviced on-site by a Bruker field service engineer. Samples are introduced via a vapor/surface probe connected to the E2M analytical module. The working end of the probe contains a semi-permeable silicone membrane approximately 2 in. in diameter, protected by a fine stainless steel mesh screen. In operation, condensed phase samples are applied to the screen via a wipe transfer. The GC uses room air as a carrier gas. The MM2 is similar to the E2M in capabilities but is ruggedized for use in harsh environments.
