4500 zNose
Employing a trap and helium carrier gas, the Model 4500 injects samples into a heated column where separation is achieved. Materials sequentially exit the column and are deposited on the SAW detector. This deposition results in a change in the oscillating frequency of the resonator directly proportional to the mass. The 4500 zNose can be customized to qualitatively identify a broad range of compounds. Other models of the instrument (4300, 7100) require external computers, but can provide more quantitative data. The model 4500 is more of a screening instrument where the detected substance is displayed by name only.
