C-FLAPS
The C-FLAPS is a fluorescent laser aerodynamic particle sizing detector which uses the FLAPS III (3317) Fluorescence Aerosol Particle Sensor from TSI Incorporated. The C-FLAPS has been designed for military use and is employed as a referee device by the US Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, US Army West Desert Test Center is Dugway, Utah, and at DRDC Suffield in Canada. The C-FLAPS operates by concentrating the particle stream, discriminating and eliminating particles outside of the 1-10 um range, using fluorescence excitation of NADH and Riboflavin and measuring fluorescence emissions with light scattering intensity, and using integrated alarming algorithms to differentiate between non-living and biological events. C-FLAPS instruments are very noisy to operate.
